Many of the following instructions make reference to Detailed Protocols. You may need to refer to them for more specific instructions. To request detailed instructions for an undescribed feature, e-mail your request to development@multiling.com
I. Imports
For a detailed explanation of a simple import, click here.
1. Run a simple import with a regular file name (no spaces or special characters in the file name).
2. Run a simple import with a space in the file name.
3. Run a simple import with an underscore in the file name.

4. Perform a recursive import to the same directory tree.
5. Perform a recursive import mirroring the directory tree with a pre-existing directory tree.
6. Perform a recursive import mirroring the directory tree with no pre-existing directory tree.
7. Perform a recursive import mirroring the directory tree where a partial directory tree pre-exists.

2. Open a language pair for each filter type.
3. Verify that the formatting tags are correct for each filter.
III. Pretranslation, and Fuzzy Statistics
For an explanation of pretranslation, click here.
1. Apply reference memory to an import.
2. Verify that the import produces the following statistics as expected:
- a. 100% matches
- b. Partial matches
- c. Fuzzy matches
3. Check the import log and verify the repetition statistics are correct.
4. Verify that the word count, segment count, and tag count are correct.
IV. Exports

1. Run a simple export.
2. Run a multifile export.
3. Run a recursive export.
4. Put errors in the markup for each type of filter and try to run a simple export.
- a. What are the results?
- b. Does the filter crash?
- c. Does the program crash?
- d. Is the error reported in a meaningful way?

Editor Shortcuts
1. Open two files.
2. Place the cursor somewhere in one of the documents.
3. Move the cursor up, down, left, and right using the keypad.
4. Verify page up and page down work properly.
5. Verify Home and End work properly.
6. Verify + and – move to the previous/next segment.
7. Type some text in a target segment.
8. Click inside a formatting tag. Try and type within the tag. You should not be able to.
9. Use Alt+P to turn of tag protection. Type inside a tag now. You should be able to.
10. Try to type in the source window. You should not be able to.
11. Turn off write protection and type in the source window.
12. Use Backspace to delete some of the text you typed.
13. Use delete to delete the rest of the text you typed.
14. Undo using Ctrl+Z (Alt+Backspace also works).
15. Redo using Ctrl+Y.
16. Replace the target segment with the original target segment using Ctrl+Alt+Backspace.
17. Ctrl+Click on a formatting tag. Drag it to a new location and release.
18. Shift+Up/Down to highlight blocks of text.
19. Shift+Left/Right to highlight space by space.
20. Alt+Shift+Right/Left to highlight to the beginning/end of a segment.
21. Alt+Left/Right move to the beginning/end of a segment.
22. Ctrl+Left/Right move to the previous/next word.
23. Ctrl+Tab to change to the next tab.
24. Ctrl+F to bring up the Find dialog.
25. Ctril+H to bring up the Find and Replace dialog
26. Ctrl+G to bring up the GoTo dialog
27. Copy text using Ctrl+C.
28. Paste that text using Ctrl+V. Undo and Redo action.
29. Select All text using Ctrl+A.
30. Cut text using Ctrl+X. Undo and Redo action.
31. Save a file.
32. Close a file.
Pane Functions and Editor Performance
33. Change the font. You should not have to reload the file to change font.
34. Toggle All of the Tag Settings.
35. Toggle the Semantis Dictionary.
36. Open and close the Project Settings dialog.
37. Open and close the Profile Settings dialog.
38. Disable Display Each Segment on a New Line. Re-enable it.
39. Disable Synchronize Window. Re-enable it.
40. Disable Mark Active Segment. Re-enable it.
41. Enable show special characters. Disable it.
42. Disable Display Window Title. Re-enable it.
43. Disable Use colors to differentiate segments. Re-enable it.
44. Select some text. Press a cursor key. Does the cursor position move to an intuitive location? Repeat with all cursor keys.
45. Resize the font several times, to very small, regular, and very large point sizes.
VI. Segment Folding
1. Fold segments using a literal string.
2. Unfold segments.
3. Display the segments with an expression.
4. Display the segments without an expression.
5. Enter a second expression and display segments between both expressions.
6. Display segments above and below both expressions.
7. Fold segments from the whole text.
8. Fold segments using a marked (highlighted) portion of the text.
9. Verify that Range: Segments Above and Segments Below display the appropriate number of segments.
10. Fold segments using Match Case.
11. Fold segments using Find whole words only.
VII. Search and Replace
1. Search for a two letter combination.
2. Find next to locate another instance of the two letter combination.
3. Search for a four letter combination and include punctuation.
4. Search for a whole word.
5. Search from the cursor position.
6. Search All of the document
7. Match Case.
8. Find a whole word only.
9. Search marked text.
10. Search Up.
11. Search Down.
12. Search using a regular expression.
13. Replace some item in the text.
14. Search for the replacement item and replace it with something else.
VIII. Format Check
1. Run a formatting check. Verify that it will identify unmatched whitespace and prompt you to fix it manually.
2. Verify that Check Formatting Codes will automatically fix differences in whitespace.
3. Verify that Check Formatting Codes will identify mismatched tags.
4. Check that it will identify misspelled tags.
5. Check that it will identify missing tags.
6. Verify that Check Formatting Codes will ignore changes to the order of the tags.
IX. Spelling Check
1. Does the spell check start?
2. Make changes to the document using the spell checker.
3. Undo spell check changes.
4. Make sure that the capitalization and punctuation work as expected.
5. For a French document, does the spell checker report contractions as errors?
6. Verify that the spell checker works modelessly (you can make changes to the document and then return to working in the spell checker).
X. Retropropagation

1. Make sure that retropropagation works.
2. Reinsert the source segment with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace.
3. Test retropropagation with partial matches.
4. Verify that retropropagation ignores differences in whitespace.
XI. Concordance Search
1. Search for a word in the reference memory.
2. Search for a string in the reference memory.
3. Search for a slight variation to a string in the reference memory.
4. Search using a regular expression.
5. Run a case sensitive search.
6. Run a search not using whole words only.
7. Adjust the percentage match and search for a string in the memory that falls within the new range.
XII. Split Frame Management
1. Resize panes.
2. Close a pane using the X button.
3. Restore the pane using Alt+(Num 1-5).
4. Drag and dock panes within the main window.
5. Drag and dock a pane outside the main Fortis window.
6. Verify that the five Window Arrangements work.
7. Resize window panes to their smallest possible size.
8. Resize the Fortis main window to its smallest possible size.
9. Verify that the program does not crash when windows are sized too small.
10. Does the window pane operation feel intuitive generally?
XIII. Dictionary Window
1. Load a dictionary.
2. Verify that terms from the dictionary are highlighted in the editor.
3. Add fields to the dictionary.
4. Show term definitions.
5. Show synonyms.
6. Insert translations using Alt+T.
XIV. Remarks Window
1. Create a remark.
2. Check the context menu in the remarks window (?)
3. Remove a remark.
4. Reply to a remark
5. Save the document. Verify that the remarks save with the rest of the document.
XV. Fuzzy Network
1. Are you able to get fuzzy queries for a file that reports fuzzy matches?
2. Test fuzzy matches for segments of various lengths:
- a. An entire paragraph per segment
- b. One sentence in a segment
- c. One phrase in a segment
3. Test at least 20 levels of sentence distortion to see if matches are reported.
- a. Are the reported match percentages appropriate?
- b. Is it possible to scroll through alternative fuzzy matches?
4. Test the fuzzy options in the profile settings.
- a. Can you change the settings?
- b. Does the program register the changes?
